| Publishing for rural poor: |
Booksline brings out information-based self learning materials and books on livelihoods and women’s health issues for rural people, which are used by the target audience directly or by the organizations that work with the rural masses for their development. |
| |
For this, Booksline develops partnerships with such organizations with an understanding of allowing others to make use of the material developed. This way, many organizations are involved in the task of dissemination of information, thereby improving rural people’s life. Partnering also adds the value of field experience to the publication. |
| |
Booksline can do the following:
1) carry out the necessary research to give complete information on the topic by approaching experts from various institutions/universities,
2) shoot pictures,
3) get artworks prepared,
4) develop and edit the script, put together the content initially in English,
5) carry out reviews by other experts to ensure that the material is technically correct,
6) translate and adapt scripts in the local languages of India,
7) field-test the scripts with the target audience (ie villagers or the field staff) to ensure its maximum utility, before producing it. |
| |
Organizations can approach Booksline with a proposal of developing material for the grassroots level audience. |
| |

| Reading clubs: |
Booksline is in the process of establishing a network of reading clubs in a few villages of Andhra Pradesh, wherever the literacy levels are low and reading books is a problem.
A young woman from the village is selected and trained, as a book reader, who reads our books to a group of 15 members (selected from existing network group in that village), and one book is read every week in a two-hour reading session.
Booksline is interested in working in partnership with the organizations having network in the villages. The books are supplied by Booksline to the clubs in the print form or PDF form, which either can be read aloud or viewed with the help of computers. Booksline also helps the organization to selects the book readers and provides training to them.
At present, there are 15 clubs functioning in Mahaboobabad mandal of Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh. |

These training modules are on various livelihood activities and will impart training at people’s doorstep.
