Children grow healthy when they get good nutrition right from birth. It is very easy for mothers to learn and practice ways to prevent malnutrition in the baby.

The 0-2 year period is the time when malnutrition sets in, if children are not fed properly. Malnutrition affects physical and mental growth and the child can develop deficiency related problems like Kwashiorkor, Marasmus, blindness, anaemia etc. Baby should be breast-fed within half an hour of birth. Breast-feeding should be continued exclusively until baby is 6 months old. Semi-solid food must be started from 6 months onwards. Care should be taken to conserve nutrients while cooking. The 4 books in the series give detailed information on the above and the titles are as follows:

About Complementary Feeding…
(Food for children below two years)

81-87102-09-8      Rs.25/-

As the baby grows, breast milk alone is not enough to meet the baby’s nutrition requirements. It requires a lot more energy so that it can reach milestones like crawling, sitting, standing and walking on time. Only solid food from outside can provide the necessary additional requirements. From the age of 6 months, babies should be given semisolids made from a variety of foods, which are available locally, in every home. This book explains when to start giving solid foods, what to give, how much and how often. It also talks about learning to encourage children to eat solid food, food hygiene, and feeding children during and after illness.
